The road less traveled. The ride to Monteverde is an adventure in itself… but that is soon to change. Pavement is coming and all that comes with it. For now, take it easy and enjoy the views. Here are directions from popular locations.
From San Jose & Alajuela
Public Bus: 6:30 am – 2:30pm direct. This public bus will pass thru Alajuela (airport) 30 minutes after its departure from San Jose.
Direct Shuttles: $45-$50 depart at 8am or 2pm from San Jose. Shuttles depart the airport at 9am and 3pm.
From La Fortuna
Taxi-boat-taxi departs from your hotel in La Fortuna daily 8:30am and 2:30pm and costs $25pp. Returns from Monteverde at 8:00am and 2:00pm.
From Puntarenas & South Pacific
There are 2 direct buses departing Puntarenas at 1:15pm and 2:15pm, arriving to Monteverde at around 4 and 5 pm. Returns to Puntarenas at 6am and 3 pm.
Direct shuttles: Cost $45-$50 and depart daily from all major beaches.
From Liberia & North Pacific
Catch any early bus departing for San Jose. Depart this bus at Sardinal/Rancho Grande. From this point you can connect with any bus headed to Monteverde. Be sure to indicate to the driver to stop.

Once across the border at Penas Blancas connect with the first available bus to San Jose. Depart this bus at the Sardinal/Rancho Grande. From this point you can connect with any bus headed to Monteverde. Be sure to indicate to the driver to stop.
